Hotel Platzhirsch Living Frankfurt Airport

A ten-minute drive from Frankfurt Airport is the Platzhirsch Hotel – a good and affordable hotel!

During one of my trips to New York, I fly from Frankfurt Airport. As my flight leaves early, I opt for a hotel stay close to the airport and book a room at the Platzhirsch Living Hotel.

The Platzhirsch Living hotel has a shuttle bus to and from Frankfurt Airport, which is ideal for early flights or a late arrival. Since we get on the ICE to Frankfurt Airport in Utrecht, when we arrive there we can also take the shuttle bus to the hotel.

Platzhirsch Living

For an airport hotel, the Platzhirsch Living is a fine hotel. The hotel has a restaurant serving a buffet breakfast, but you can also grab a bite to eat or a drink in the evening.

A nice detail: if you order a drink, it will be delivered by a delivery robot. And for those with an early flight, there is the option of ordering breakfast to-go.

The room

When I walk into the room, I immediately notice that the air conditioning has not been on. The room is very sweltering, and it’s hard to get rid of the heat.

The room at the Platzhirsch Living is also on the small side, but given the short time you usually spend in an airport hotel, that is not a disaster. As I fly to New York with a friend the next day, I book a single room with twin beds.

The beds are fairly rickety and detach from the wall too easily. Also, there is no pillow menu and the pillows are not to my taste, at least.

The bathroom has Rituals soap, lotion and body wash. What is unfortunate is that the bathroom only has a hand shower and there is no rain shower.

Remote working Frankfurt

Remote working at Platzhirsch Living is almost impossible to do on the hotel’s Wi-Fi network. It is difficult to connect at all during the day.

On the morning of departure when it is – presumably – quieter (04.30 am), I do get connection and get up to 120MB/s. Too bad, because the lack of connection during the day makes it unworkable when needed.

Facilities

The main reason to book the Platzhirsch Living is its location and shuttle bus to and from Frankfurt airport. However, you can park next to the hotel at Platzhirsch Parking and use the restaurant and breakfast.

Other facilities such as a swimming pool or gym are not available.

Breakfast Platzhirsch Living Hotel

The hotel has a buffet and to-go breakfast solution. Because I have access to a number of lounges at Frankfurt Airport AND because my flight leaves early, I book this stay without breakfast.

At the time I leave for the airport, breakfast is not yet ready. So unfortunately I can’t make an impression, but I do see that there are a number of paper bags ready with a to-go breakfast for the guests.

Location Platzhirsch Living Frankfurt Airport

The Platzhirsch Living’s location is ideal. It is less than a ten-minute drive from the airport and offers a free shuttle. If you don’t want to wait for the shuttle bus, you can order an Uber for 14 euros, which will also take you to the airport within ten minutes.

You will find the shuttle bus at the airport near the arrivals hall. From the arrivals hall, walk to the A1 sign and exit there. Then turn left and walk towards the Medical Centre/Hospital at P29.

Price Platzhirsch Living Frankfurt

I am paying 118 euros for the double room (January 2025). That includes free shuttle and does not include breakfast.

Conclusion Platzhirsch Living Frankfurt

The hotel is a great choice if you are looking for a hotel before or after a flight at Frankfurt Airport. The hotel offers a good price for a fine room. The only real drawback is the hand shower instead of a rain shower, but that is not significant for one night.
