Standing in front of a closed lounge just before your First Class flight, which is not a great start.
Senator Lounge Frankfurt Lounge
Prior to my flight to New York, I get access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf lounge and this Senator Lounge at Frankfurt Airport. I arrive at the airport early and discover that the Senator Lounge does not open until 06.00, so I am initially faced with a closed door.
As the clock gets closer to 06.00, a large queue forms and the lady at check-in makes all but no effort to let people in even half a minute earlier. I choose to explore the Air Canada lounge first, before visiting the Senator Lounge.
When I arrive at the lounge just under an hour later, the queue has thankfully disappeared and the lounge is relatively quiet. In this review, I tell you more about the Senator Lounge in Terminal 1, Frankfurt Airport.
The lounge is large and divided into a number of different seating areas. These include a number of bar tables, there is a coffee bar with benches, there are tables to enjoy eating at and specially equipped desks to work at.

Access Senator Lounge Frankfurt
You get access to the Senator Lounge in a number of ways. For example, you can enter the lounge if you have gold status with Star Alliance or fly with one of the Star Alliance partners in Business or First class.
- Star Alliance Business or First Class ticket
If you fly with one of the Star Alliance partners in Business or First Class, you will get access to the Senator Lounge. - Star Alliance status
If you have Gold status with Star Alliance and fly with one of the partners – regardless of whether it is economy – you will be granted lounge access.
Location Senator Lounge Frankfurt
The entrance is on the left as you walk towards Gate B44-48 and is indicated by a large square yellow sign.
Once through the check-in desk, you can take a lift or escalator to the first floor, where the lounge is located.

Food and drink Senator Lounge Frankfurt
The food and drinks are very similar to the other Star Alliance lounge in Terminal 1 – the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge – and consist of pretzels, sweet rolls, meatballs and cheese and cold cuts and yoghurts with fruit and granola.

In terms of drinks, the selection is also very similar. So you can tap your own beer, choose spirits or a wine and there is also plenty of choice in terms of soft drinks, juices, tea and coffee.
Further down the lounge, you will also find a dedicated coffee bar, where a barista prepares fresh coffee for you.

Working at Frankfurt Airport
The Senator Lounge has a dedicated corner set up for working, but you can also fold open your laptop at the high tables with bar stools. Furthermore, there are plenty of tables where you can slide your chair in comfortably to get some work done there too.
If you use the lounge or airport network, make sure you secure your connection with a VPN.

Shower & toilet Senator Lounge Frankfurt
The Senator Lounge offers some showers and they look fine. Although I do not need to shower, I do get access to take a look and shoot some photos. The shower is spacious, has soap, shampoo and a private toilet.

There is little to say about the toilets themselves. They are fine, neat and clean.

Spa Senator lounge Frankfurt
The Senator Lounge has its own spa – the Senator Spa – where you can take spa treatments for a fee. This is at normal rates, where I personally expected a treatment to be free – as in Paris – or at least at reduced rates.

Other facilities
Besides its own spa and showers, the lounge also has lockers where you can store small items. Keep in mind that these lockers are also paid for and meant for small items only. At the end of the day, all lockers are released, so you cannot keep your belongings in the locker for more than a day.

Conclusion Senator Lounge Frankfurt
The Senator Lounge is a fine lounge. The huge surface area makes the lounge feel peaceful, and the many seating areas make it fine to be seated in a nice spot. Whether you want to relax on the sofa having a cup of coffee or work at a good desk, the opportunity is there.
The showers are very nice and large and the food – as in the Air Canada lounge – is also fine. The view of the Singapore Airlines Boeing I’ll soon be boarding is always impressive.
