50 Bowery Hyatt New York City bed

Hotel 50 Bowery NYC

Showering in a bathtub with a shower curtain, I’m curious about the rest….

During one of my visits to New York, I am staying at the Hotel 50 Bowery by Hyatt. The hotel – like earlier the Pullman in Lombok – was booked through Points Consultant, which provides some nice perks.

So we – I’m visiting New York with Erik this time – get an upgrade to a better room, access to the second-floor lounge, free breakfast, a $75 credit for the rooftop bar and several other little perks.

50 Bowery Manhattan

The 50 Bowery is basically a fine hotel. It does not ooze luxury and in some ways even has something hippy about it. For instance, the ceiling of the rooms is raw and you can see raw concrete pillars in the room.

This is at odds with the corny bar with roof terrace at the top of the hotel or the shower with shower curtain in a too-small bathtub.

A little search reveals that the 50 Bowery is a boutique hotel and that explains the look, but does not, in my opinion, justify the use of a shower curtain in the bathtub.

Room 50 Bowery Hotel

To build on that, the room is fine. Spacious even and equipped with twin beds. We get a room on the 18th floor, which gives a great view, especially since we get a corner room.

The room has a small wardrobe, one chair and an LCD TV.

The bathroom has a small bath (which is too small to sit or lie down in) and shower. In my experience, the shower curtain is really not acceptable. Towels, on the other hand, are plentiful.

Remote working New York

The 50 Bowery in New York features a lounge and hotel bar where you can work well. The lounge serves free coffee and tea and you can use the water dispenser.

The Wifi network is fine and offers fast and stable internet. Just remember to secure your connection when using the public Wifi network.

Hotel 50 Bowery Lounge

On the second floor, you will find the lounge and there you will find water, coffee and tea. There are also a number of benches and tables where you can work. While pleasant, this does not come close to an executive lounge of, say, a Hilton.

Breakfast 50 Bowery Hotel

You can have breakfast at the 50 Bowery in two ways. There is a $50 credit that you can spend online. Food is then delivered to your room.

We choose to have breakfast upstairs in the hotel’s rooftop bar. Although not extensive, it is a fine breakfast. There is filter coffee, tea and various juices.

You can also choose from overnight oats, yoghurts or bagels with cream cheese and jam =)

The hotel bar

With $75 credit in our pocket, we take a look at the hotel bar. I imagine this is a lovely bar in summer with a fantastic outdoor terrace, but at the time we visit the htoel, it is very quiet.

A beer here quickly costs $10, and here we add a 20% tip. We charge a paltry $56 for two beers and 5 spring rolls.

Location 50 Bowery Hotel New York

The location of the 50 Bowery Hotel is excellent. It is located in Chinatown in southern Manhattan, close to the Financial District. Like anywhere in New York, you’ll reach an underground station quickly and from there you can easily find your way throughout New York City.

Around the hotel you will find hip neighbourhoods where more locals tend to walk around. A different vibe from, say,the Intercontinental Barclay in Midtown Manhattan.

Advantages

Cons

  • Rooftop bar is very expensive
  • Breakfast not very extensive
  • A shower curtain in the bathtub is not acceptable.
The gym

The gym at the 50 Bowery, like many hotel gyms, is not fantastic (feel free to call it a bad gym). You’ll find some cardio machines, some dumbbells and a bench. You won’t get an intense workout done here.

Price 50 Bowery New York

I paid 450 euros for two nights at the Bowery Hotel (Jan 2025), which works out to 225 euros per night. That’s the price for two people including breakfast.

That includes breakfast and lounge access, and we get a USD75 credit to use at the hotel bar or mini-bar (at the reception).

If you also want to take advantage of this price and benefits book then then I can recommend booking the hotel through Points Consultant.

Conclusion 50 Bowery by Hyatt

Hotel 50 Bowery is a fine hotel and Points Consultant arranged really nice perks for us. Still, I personally prefer to be in an AirBNB in Brooklyn. It’s a lot cheaper and gives you more opportunities to explore the city via breakfasts and coffees.
