Great to have you here! Most probably you are here because you booked our house for your stay in Kuta.
On this page, we give you tips to make your stay even more enjoyable. Everything we share on this page is based on our own experiences and on our visits to Lombok in recent years. Scroll down for a short overview, or jump directly to the sections that interest you most.
Being able to use mobile internet while traveling is convenient. Personally, we use Firsty and Saily for easy and affordable mobile internet access.
Among other things, this will help you when booking a Grab or Gojek (see below), but also if you need Google Maps or Google Translate. After all, not everyone on Lombok speaks or understands English equally well, so Translate comes in handy sometimes 🙂
From the airport to the house
Let’s start at the beginning. You arrive at Lombok International Airport and want to get to our house. Fortunately, this is very easy these days.
Walk straight ahead as you exit the terminal, go straight ahead. You avoid all the shouting taxi drivers and keep walking until you reach the Grab or Gojek stand. Both are next to each other. Using the Grab or Gojek app, you can hire a taxi to Villa NMBR Four with no hassle at all. You’ll pay about 7 euros for it, equivalent to about 140,000 rupees.
Renting a scooter
We always rent our scooter from Herdis Surahman. He provides scooters with low mileage and they are always in good condition. Booking is easy via Whatsapp. You always get a fair price.
Agree with Herdis that he can park the scooter at the house and also pick it up there, that way you have the least work and it costs you nothing extra. Just use the button below and add your preferred date.
Although you can pay with debit or Mastercard almost everywhere, sometimes it is still handy to have cash in your pocket. Even if only to buy a fun (or wonderfully tacky) shirt at one of the markets or because you fancy a coconut at a roadside stall.
Withdrawing money can be done in many places, but there are few ATMs in Kuta where you can withdraw “freely”. There is often a limit of 1 million rupees (about 50 euros) and this can sometimes be annoying. The ATM I can recommend if you want to withdraw more than 1 million rupees is Maybank, opposite Fresh Market.
You can withdraw up to 3 million at a time here. This gives you a little more freedom and reduces the cost of debit card transactions. It’s a win-win.
Eating & drinking in Kuta
Eating and drinking in Kuta can be as expensive—or as affordable—as you like. Personally, we like to go to a warung where you can eat good and tasty food for little money. A warung is almost always run by a local, unlike other (more expensive) restaurants.
Flora (warung)
Our favourite. We have been coming to Flora since our first visit. You’ll find Flora on Kuta’s main street. Both the fresh curry, noodles or nasi goreng or chap chai are worth a visit.
A main course will cost you about 45,000 rupees, which translates to about 2 to 3 euros
Bude (warung)
Runner-up and definitely a good second – for us – is Bude, where you cannot beat the nasi kuning, although the Gado Gado is also very good.
A breakfast shop as you would expect in Indonesia. Hip, convivial, healthy as well as unhealthy options. From fresh banana bread with a pinch of cinnamon to avocado toast on sourdough bread.
Milk is slightly more expensive than the local warungs. You pay around 75-90,000 rupees here for a dish (about 6 euros) and 30-35,000 rupees for a coffee (about 1.80 euros)
Not in the mood for food, but just good coffee? Then Jelajah Coffee is the place to go. For 30-40,000 rupees, you can find normal coffee here, as well as tasty caramel macchiatos or babycinos.
A touch touristy, but a fun concept. The Garden Collective is – as you might expect – a kind of open garden surrounded by fun eateries, a bar and bakery.
You will find delicious pad thai, fantastic ice cream and also very good burgers, if you feel like something other than noodles or fried rice.
The last restaurant in line is Elamu. Not because it is better than The Warung or Ombak, but because it is just a little bit different from local food.
You can eat delicious Greek food at Elamu, but what I would recommend is to try the (all you can eat) Brunch on Sundays. Cosy and packed with delicious food.
This is not specifically aimed at eating out, but fresh fruit really should not be missing from your daily routine. We always buy this at Toko Banyu Urip. This is right next to the big supermarket, but is much fresher, run by locals ánd dirt cheap.
The above is quite a list of delicacies, but you will find much – much – more about food and drink in Kuta on this comprehensive blog about Kuta.
Sports
Should you feel like it, you can also enjoy sports in Kuta. For instance, there are run clubs you can sign up for to run, say, 5 or 10 kilometres – at a leisurely pace.
One of the benefits of a run club is that you are less bothered by the dogs roaming the streets, which can still be annoying when running alone—and it’s also a great way to meet new people.
You can also do Fitness, Crossfitting or join Hyrox classes at Xeno. You pay around 85 euros a month for these. Do you only want to strength train and be cheaper? You can also try Bumblebee Gym for basic strength training at a lower cost.
Things to do and see
Mount Rinjani
One of the highlights of Lombok is Mount Rinjani. In this article you can read all about the hike and here you can read exactly how to prepare.
We booked our Rinjani trek through Ali Trekking and highly recommend it.
Shannon has huge passion for diving, knows unique and quiet spots and patiently walks you through everything. Don’t feel like getting your Padi, but would rather snorkel or do a trial dive? That’s possible too.
Surfing
Going to Lombok? Do you like surfing? These two often go hand in hand when you mention your trip when you tell people where you are going.
We ourselves are not avid surfers, so it is not mandatory, but if you do like surfing, Lombok and especially Gerupuk is the place to be.
Beach
Lombok is a relatively small island, which means a beach is never far away. Visit one of the many beautiful bays and relax on a beach chair or beanbag, order a coconut or beer and relax.
Bringing food and drink is not necessary. There is plenty to be found at the small warungs around the beaches.
Is the above not enough? Then you can also paraglide at Tampah Hills Bay and if that’s just a little too adventurous, taking a cooking class is also highly recommended.
Relax in a spa
After all that food and exercise, it is also important to relax and there is one spa that stands out in Kuta as far as we are concerned: Jivana Resort. You’ll find Jivana in the centre, just off the main street.
If Jivana is fully booked, no worries. You can also do well at MatchaSpa or Ku, but both are more expensive ánd offer a slightly less comprehensive experience. So book in time 😉
Additional information
You will receive additional information about the ins and outs of Villa NMBR Four in your booking confirmation. This includes information about the Wi-Fi connection (with speeds of up to 60 Mbps—nice and fast!), about the keys and also contact details if you have any questions while you’re there.
