We ended our trip to India and Sri Lanka with a few days in Kuala Lumpur, as our flight back to Amsterdam departs from here. During our stay in Kuala Lumpur, we sleep at the DoubleTree by Hilton. We book this hotel partly because of the Executive lounge, as we are also working remotely. A lounge where you can work quietly and have access to coffee and tea is a big plus.
We book the DoubleTree by Hilton partly on points, which makes our stay very affordable. In addition, our Diamond status at Hilton Honors provides us with another excellent upgrade!
Hilton Honors Member
At the time of writing, one of us is Diamond Member in the Hilton Honors program and this gives us several options to book the DoubleTree by Hilton in Kuala Lumpur. In Bangalore, we booked the Conrad through an Impresario. With that, we save extra points, which we deploy during our stay at DoubleTree. This earned us more than 100 euros in savings.
The advantage of being a Diamond member is that we have free access to the Hilton Executive lounge.

The room at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur
We book a standard room at the DoubleTree by Hilton. Not only is this a really fine room, but there is also a good chance that you will get an upgrade when you are a Diamond member. Once again, we receive an excellent upgrade to a spacious suite. The room is divided into a sitting area with sofa, TV and dining table. The bedroom is also large, with a (large) bed, sitting area, desk and a very spacious bathroom with a rain shower and bathtub.
Location DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur
We did not find that the location of the DoubleTree by Hilton is ideal. The last time we visited Kuala Lumpur, we slept at the Hilton Garden Inn. This hotel is located in Bukit Bintang, a cosy area with many restaurants and shops. The Petronas Towers were also a sort walk away.
The DoubleTree by Hilton offers fantastic views of the Petronas Towers. But because it is located in the financial district, there is little to do in the immediate area. However, you can walk to the Petronas Towers in 20 minutes. Then you’re also already near Bukit Bintang.
DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur breakfast
Yummie! Breakfast here is incredible. If you have access to the Executive Lounge, you can also have breakfast here. Of course, we want to use both options so we have breakfast one day in the normal breakfast room and one day in the lounge.
Breakfast in the regular breakfast room is huge. There are several cooking islands for western, Indian, Malaysian and Chinese cuisine. You will find sweet breads, a wide selection of coffees and teas, curry, egg, pancakes, waffles, cake, sweets, salads and anything else you can imagine. There is even a roti station.
We found the lounge more limited in comparison. I’m not used to that from other Executive Lounges. We were about to go back downstairs, but gave the lounge a try anyway. In the end, I found breakfast more pleasant in the lounge, as it is nice and quiet. Unlike the breakfast room, which was packed. Of course, you miss the various kitchens in the lounge, but I had a great meal there! Another advantage: you will avoid overeating =).

Hilton executive lounge
The DoubleTree by Hilton has a fine, spacious lounge. Located on the 34th floor and with great views of one of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic landmarks, the Petronas Towers. There is even a small rooftop terrace for the enthusiast.
I found the food and drinks in the lounge to be in good order. The offer varies from day to day and ranges between snacks, chips, fresh fruit, salad, fried snacks, rice or pasta and, of course, the necessary drinks. You can order hot chocolate or cocktails and they serve nice wine.
Remote working in Kuala Lumpur
We booked the DoubleTree by Hilton specifically because we worked remotely. We could work in the room, in the Axis lounge and in the Executive lounge. The internet is fast (30Mbps) and stable. I was able to make video calls with no hiccups.
Costs of the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur
We book the DoubleTree at Hilton for €87.00 per night (Nov 2023) using 30,000 points. This results in a total discount of just over 100 euros. This brings the total price per night to 55 euros per room (for two people).
