“Conrad remains one of my favourite brands”

Jeanine and I conclude our trip to Bangkok at the Conrad. After working hard at Hyrox, we feel we deserve a nice ending. We book the Conrad Bangkok again via an impresario and can therefore use $100 hotel credit during our stay, for example in the spa or one of the restaurants.

A little research on the internet shows that the hotel was renovated not too long ago, specifically in 2019, has about 390 rooms and features 5 restaurants.

During our visit, we stay in the Premium King-high Floor and have free breakfast access to the lounge due to my Diamond status.

Conrad Bangkok

In addition to the restaurants and lounge, the hotel features a nice swimming pool and heated bath, several tennis courts, a large gym, a spa and offers standard valet parking for all guests.

Despite my status, I do not receive a generous upgrade at the Conrad, something we were warned about in advance. Given the hotel’s busyness, I expected more.

What is nice, however, is that as a Diamond member you can check in quietly in the lounge.

Pros and cons of Conrad Bangkok

Pros
  • Guaranteed comfort at Conrad
  • Breakfast in the lounge is quite pleasant
  • Executive lounge
Cons
  • Location is not perfect if you want to walk to restaurants
  • Not generous with upgrades

Price Conrad Bangkok

We pay €450 for the Conrad for three nights, which is about €150 per night. For that, we get the Premium King-high Floor, free breakfast, lounge access and $100 hotel credit.

We can use that credit for in-room dining, the restaurants, spa, etc.

Location Conrad Bangkok

During our other stays in Bangkok, we deliberately stayed in Thonglor. A district with many restaurants, coffee shops and liveliness around you.

The Conrad is located about 15 minutes away from Thonglor, towards the business area (Embassy). There is slightly less life on the street and in the vicinity of the hotel you see few local restaurants.

The hotel itself is otherwise easily accessible, has its own parking lot where you can park both your car and scooter. The hotel’s standard valet service also makes it very easy. You hand in your key and when you want to leave, you ask at the reception if they can bring your car or scooter around.

Room Conrad Bangkok

The room at the Conrad Bangkok is 41㎡ large, features a nice, large bed with even larger pillows and a pillow menu, there is a small desk, a small sofa and a seating area.

Furthermore, the room is equipped with a spacious wardrobe, television, coffee and minibar.

As usual at the Conrad, towels are changed several times a day and there is a turndown service.

The room

Bathroom

The bathroom at the Conrad is adequate. Not particularly large, but equipped with a bathtub, walk-in shower and sink, though I would have preferred two.

In the shower, you will find shampoo, conditioner and soap from Byredo and also at the sink, you will find nice body lotion from the same brand.

Breakfast Conrad Bangkok

The Conrad serves breakfast on the second floor in Cafe@2 and in the lounge on the 29th floor.

Breakfast room

The Conrad serves breakfast on the second floor in Cafe@2. Although it is reasonably busy at breakfast, you can still find a few empty tables and the breakfast itself is still sufficiently replenished.

One of the benchmarks of a good hotel breakfast is still the Conrad Istanbul and unfortunately, the Conrad in Bangkok cannot match that. The food is of good quality, but the selection is not very extensive.

It consists of the necessary sweet pastries, sourdough breads, egg dishes and sausages, bacon etc. There is also a fruit and salad bar, waffles, pancakes and more Asian dishes such as curries.

Breakfast in the Executive Lounge

Personally, I prefer to have breakfast in the Executive Lounge.

It is generally quieter and the selection is almost the same as in the breakfast room.

In addition to the standard selection, you can also order a la carte.

Facilities Conrad Bangkok

Executive Lounge

On the 29th floor of the Conrad, you will find the Executive Lounge. The lounge is located on both sides of the hotel.

The lounge serves breakfast in the morning, between 14:00 and 16:00 you can go there for non-alcoholic drinks, scones and other light snacks.

Between 17:30 and 19:30 you can go there for hot snacks and alcoholic drinks, with staff eagerly walking around to refill your drinks.

Gym

The Conrad features a spacious gym with many amenities. There are many machines, free weights, cardio machines and complete racks.

Swimming pool

The swimming pool consists of two parts. A large pool where you can swim laps and a smaller pool at 38°, which I prefer.

Tennis court

Next to the swimming pool you will find a large area with a tennis court and a pickleball court.

Spa

On the seventh floor of the hotel you will find the spa, where you can go for massages or facials.

Restaurants

The hotel features a number of restaurants and bars.

On the seventh floor you will find the City Terrace – actually the pool bar – where you can order pizzas and burgers or a drink to enjoy by (or in) the pool.

You will find Restaurant Liu on the third floor. It is a Cantonese restaurant where you can dine according to traditional Chinese customs.

Also on the third floor you will find Kisara, a Japanese restaurant where you can enjoy sushi and sake.

Finally, in the lobby you have the Diplomat Bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine.

Remote working Bangkok

Working at the Conrad is good. The hotel offers a stable WiFi connection of about 45 to 50 Mbps. Although we had one evening of an unstable connection, the internet was good for the rest of our stay.

Both at the desk in the room and in the lounge you have enough space to open your laptop and get some work done.

Conclusion Conrad Bangkok

The Conrad remains one of my favourite brands. You have a guarantee of comfort, a good bed and good service.

The Conrad Bangkok also meets this expectation for me. The hotel offers a nice room, a nice lounge and a good breakfast. Although the breakfast is not outstanding, it is good enough.

The service in Bangkok is excellent, although I think that also has to do with the Thai themselves. Everyone is friendly, helpful and patient.
