The DoubleTree in Glasgow does not honour the Hilton program.
While checking into the DoubleTree in Glasgow, I am thrilled. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I received an upgrade to the Executive floor with access to the lounge. After receiving the keycard, I am given two more signature biscuits and in good spirits we head for the room.

DoubleTree Glasgow Central
The DoubleTree Glasgow Central is a Hilton hotel. The building looks fairly dated from the outside, which is not surprising. In fact, the building dates back to 1984 and was renovated in 2016.
You can see some aspects of that renovation. For instance, the halls and lobby are fine, but the rooms themselves are still old-fashioned. The bathrooms in particular are out of date.

Besides the 300 rooms – including 3 suites – the hotel has a swimming pool, gym, spa and a restaurant/bar. You’ll also find a – small – executive lounge on the ground floor.

Price Hilton Antwerp Old Town
I pay an average of £140 a night for the DoubleTree in Glasgow. Of which the cheapest night is £100 and the most expensive night is £183. This converts to an average of 167 euros per night (March 2025).
Thanks to the upgrade, we get a family room for this – I am travelling with Sven this time for the Hyrox in Glasgow – and access to the Executive lounge. Because of my Gold Status, we also have free breakfast.

Location DoubleTree Glasgow
The DoubleTree at Glasgow Central is within walking distance of the city centre and about 20 minutes from the airport.
From the hotel you can walk into the busy city centre with shops, restaurants and pubs in 15 minutes. Walk a little further and you’ll find several parks or Glasgow University, which is also definitely worth a look.

Room DoubleTree Glasgow Central
During check-in, I am initially upgraded to a room on the Executive Floor, which is strange as the Executive Lounge is on the ground floor.

The room has one double bed, which is not ideal. So we walk back to reception to ask for a room with twin beds, but still with lounge access.
Again, the reception is extremely friendly and we are assigned a family room on the third floor.

The room is spacious, has two large beds and a large bathroom. Just because the bathroom is large does not mean it is good. The shower is in the (narrow) bathtub and is anything but pleasant. The large washbasin has a single sink, and the toilet, although renovated in 2016, does not have a soft-close seat, so it often slams shut.

The room also has a desk, an uncomfortable sofa bed, a minibar, a kettle with instant coffee, and a wardrobe.
The room’s condition leaves much to be desired. Here, too, I see little of the renovation. There are cracks in the wall and ceiling, and to make matters worse, a ceiling tile falls out of the ceiling just after Sven walks under it.

Breakfast DoubleTree Glasgow
The breakfast is also underwhelming. There is little variety, the food on offer is of poor quality. One of the two coffee machines is broken and the pancake maker does not work either.

Fresh bread is not available, so the choice is limited to white bread or buns, cottage cheese without any granola, or tart croissants, as these too are far from fresh.
Breakfast is also served in the lounge, but the selection there is even slightly more limited than in the normal breakfast room, so that too unfortunately does not offer a solution.

Facilities DoubleTree Glasgow
Gym
The gym at the DoubleTree is alright, though. Although it looks like the gym consists of several rooms joined together, there is plenty of cardio and strength equipment. There are also loose dumbbells and it looks like a fine workout can be done here.

Swimming pool
The DoubleTree also has a swimming pool, but unfortunately I did not visit it myself. The indoor pool features a lap pool and a jacuzzi. Both pools are heated.

Hilton Honors Membership
The benefit of Hilton Honors comes into its own during my visit. Despite my Gold status, I get access to the Executive Lounge and a very nice room upgrade. Gold status also includes free breakfast as standard.
DoubleTree Glasgow Central Executive Lounge
Although not common within the DoubleTree brand, the Glasgow hotel has an Executive Lounge. The lounge being on the small side is not a problem in this regard. It is usually quiet, so there is always a place available.

The lounge is open 24/7 and alcohol is served with a snack between 5pm and 7pm. By the way, the snack is unremarkable and too small. It’s better to serve nothing than this. We therefore choose to eat out.
The availability of non-alcoholic beer in the lounge is a plus, though. Considering our participation in Hyrox, this is a welcome surprise.

Remote working Glasgow
The lounge is also great for working. The internet is stable and fast – streaming TV and films works fine. Just keep in mind to secure your connection when using a public Wi-Fi network, via NordVPN, for example.

Conclusion DoubleTree Glasgow Central
The DoubleTree in Glasgow does not uphold the Hilton brand standards. The rooms are old-fashioned, the walls and ceiling are full of cracks, the shower is in a too-narrow bathtub, and the breakfast is poor.
Yes, the service is perfect, but the value for money is out of balance. Of course, this could be because of the event – there were more athletes running around the DoubleTree during our stay – but personally, I think 100£ – converted to 120 euros – is also too much money for these rooms.
On a subsequent visit to Glasgow, I would not book the DoubleTree again, but look for an alternative.
