KLM New Business Class Boeing 777

In this review, I’ll tell you about my experience with KLM’s new Business Class. This time in the Boeing 777. Recently, I wrote about Saudia’s Business Class and that their focus on food and drink gives a pleasant business class experience. as my previous experiences with KLM’s food and drink were just not good, I am curious to see how it is this time.

“Serving soup from a thermos in Business Class is really unacceptable”

KLM’s new business class was introduced in June 2023 and features sliding doors that give you more privacy than traditional business class seats. You can read about what else the new World Business Class has to offer below.

My review is based on Business Class from Amsterdam to Den Pasar with a short stopover at Singapore.

More comfort in the new business class

What I remember from the old business class is that with KLM, you have less legroom than with – say – Singapore Airlines or Saudia. The new business class changes that. Not just at your feet, but the overall seat feels roomier and offers more space for storing your belongings. There is also a notch at the foot end where your legs can rest comfortably while sleeping.

You will also find a compartment where you can store your headphones and other accessories, you can charge your phone wirelessly and you can charge your devices via USB-C, USB-A and a normal plug.

The wireless charging seems nice, but the surface area is too smooth, so your phone quickly slides off the charging spot. A small rubber edge to keep a device inside the frame would have been more practical.

Below the screen, you also have space to store your laptop and have enough room to put away your (tray of) food on the right side.

Furthermore, you have an intuitive control for your seat, which of course can be completely flat, but which also allows you to set your seat to DND. And last but not least, you have a massage chair!

KLM Business Class: food & drink

For me, one of the downsides of KLM business class was always the food. This was always served on a tray, straight from the trolley. Whereas airlines like Turkish Airlines and Saudia bring a chef on board and serve food on normal tableware, this did not happen at KLM yet.

However, since 2022, KLM has a partnership with de Librije and so I am hopeful that the food and drink on board will be better this time around. This affects all flights departing from Amsterdam and applies to both the food and wines.

The menu gives hope and seems tasty at first glance. Although somewhat geared towards the fish lover, fortunately – for the non-fish lover – vegetarian options are also available.

It is subsequently unfortunate to see that KLM still serves food in KLM business class from a trolley on a tray. No extra steps are taken compared to economy class and to my surprise, the Thai Red Curry Soup is served from a thermos flask. You really can’t do that in business class.

The flavour of the curry soup is excellent, though, and the dessert – the pear mousse with a quenelle of yuzu and pear – is also very tasty. Still, I find it a shame that a name like de Librije associates itself with KLM, mainly because of the way the food is plopped on your table; I simply don’t have another word for it. And tear-off bags with salt and pepper do not belong to the Librije at all in my experience.

From Singapore, I get a slightly different menu, again served on a tray from a trolley. This time with Nasi Satay and a Molasses of coconut-pineapple cake. Again fine in flavour, but the presentation is not acceptable in 2025.

Amenity Kit KLM

As usual on a business class flight longer than six hours and/or overnight, KLM also gives you a kit with a number of amenities. The amenity kit is in collaboration with Marie-Stella-Maris and includes a lip balm, face cream, an eye mask and socks, pen and earplugs.

The pouch itself is nicely conceived, but not entirely useful as a toiletry bag.

KLM cottages

Do you fly KLM in business class? Then you say KLM cottages. During your flight, you are offered a KLM cabin and currently (October 2025) we are at cabin number 106. That one is frequent during this flight and so I am happy to take it.

Chocolate houses are also familiar to me and are eagerly consumed.

KLM Class ticket price on points

I book the journey with KLM to Den Pasar on points. I put in a total of 170,000 Miles and pay an additional €441.95. Want to know more about booking flights with Rewards and/or Miles? Then watch the video below or read this information page.

Advantages

  • Speaking Dutch during the flight

Cons

  • Poor food/poor presentation
  • Old aircraft with new layout, but therefore few toilets in crowded flight
  • Wifi not stable

Few toilets

On the flight from Amsterdam to Singapore, business class is fully booked, which means 34 seats have two toilets. Additionally, Premium Economy passengers often use the business class toilet in the rear section.

Personally, I book a business class ticket for comfort and to avoid hassle, and the two small toilets there are create hassle precisely when the cabins are fully booked. Especially in the morning and/or just before landing, when everyone wants to go to the toilet and brush their teeth.

Wi-Fi on board KLM

During the flight, as a Flying Blue member, you can use a Message Pass free of charge. You can do this in any class, as long as you are a Flying Blue member. The Message Pass is for sending messages. Signing up is easy. You log on to the Wi-Fi network, enter your Flying Blue username and the free package is activated.

Wi-Fi is not very stable and slow. Sending messages succeeds with some delay, but sending photos, videos or gifs already fails.

Infotainment

During the flight, you can use an 18″ touchscreen showing games, films and series. Games can be played via the screen or via the remote control.

It’s notable that the range of films and series is current and up-to-date.

Conclusion

KLM is coming home. I often hear that when I talk to friends or girlfriends about flying with KLM. As soon as you see the fresh blue colour or can speak Dutch (again), you feel a kind of home feeling. That’s nice.

The new seat is also a big improvement over the old business class. More space, more privacy and more comfort. An absolute improvement.

Still, KLM’s service is far from the level as Asia-based airlines such as Singapore Airlines or China Airlines. It is less natural and comes across as more obligatory than genuine. It also doesn’t help that the food is served and presented as Economy+.

During my trip to Den Pasar, business class is fully filled and then it is striking that there is only one toilet in the forward cabin. Out of 28 seats, that does not hold up.

All in all, a fine flight, but considering the value for money you pay when you can’t fly based on Miles or points, I don’t think KLM is an interesting airline to fly with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you enter a KLM lounge in Singapore?

Yes and no. Singapore – Changi – itself does not have a KLM lounge, but KLM makes sure you can enter a lounge. In Terminal 1 where you often land and/or board, you can enter the Qantas lounge, among others.

Can you also enter a KLM lounge in Bali?

If you fly with KLM from Bali, you can enter the Garuda Indonesia Lounge. Both airlines are members of Skyteam so they can use each other’s lounge.
