During a short trip to Rotterdam, we stayed at the Maashotel. The Maashotel recently joined the Hilton program, so I had high expectations in terms of reception and stay. Unfortunately, those expectations were not met.
In its current state, the Maashotel does not live up to Hilton standards.
Benefits of Hilton Honors Membership
As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, you normally receive an upgrade when better room types are available. In this case, however, we didn’t get one.
Check-in was awkward anyway. The staff member was seemingly too busy and appeared uninterested in assisting us. When I asked if she had any upgrades available based on my status, the answer was simply no.
When I asked why not, the only answer i got was: ‘because we only just became mamber of the Hilton Brand as hotel and I can’t check the status in my systemst yet’. Not exactly Hilton worthy.
Costs Maashotel Rotterdam
We paid €92 per night, including breakfast. Breakfast was included in the room rate this time. If not, you will – normally – receive breakfast at the Hilton based on your status.

The Maashotel Rotterdam room
The room at the Hilton in Rotterdam feels outdated. Although the beds and pillows are fine (which is most important, but also directly the most personal). Overall, it does not reflect Hilton standards.
The bathroom is small. Too small. The toilet is packed away and if you sit down, your elbows will touch the shower cabine. The shower itself only has a handheld shower and lacks the amenities you are used to. Shampoo and shower gel are not available.
The whole thing looks hugely dated.
Location Maashotel Rotterdam
The hotel is located right next to the Erasmus Bridge. At only a 30-second walk from the hotel you will find a car park where you can park your car for a reasonable price. The hotel is convenient for visitors attending events at Ahoy
Remote working Rotterdam
Remote working is possible here. Our room was equipped with a desk where at least someone can already work. Besides, there are plenty of remote places and coffee shops in Rotterdam where you can work well as a nomad.
Internet is generally not a problem in Netherlands. Both Wi-Fi and 5G are available.
Breakfast
Breakfast is good. There is a wide selection and the quality is good. Fresh fruit, various breads, egg dishes as well as salads are available. The salad bar could be more extensive, but is fine.
What is unfortunate is that there is no fresh cooking station where you can have egg dishes prepared. Want to add a special touch to your breakfast? Then you can pour yourself a glass of champagne.
