Fairfield by Marriott Jaipur

After a disappointing experience at the Natiya Maharani in Delhi, I was in need of a decent hotel. From Delhi, we flew on to Jaipur and booked the Fairfield by Marriott. I didn’t know it, but it seems to be a sort of budget brand within Marriott Bonvoy. The advantage of such a hotel chain is that there is a certain standard of quality. They definitely meet that standard here!

Room Fairfield by Marriott

At the Fairfield by Marriott, we got a fine room with enough space to store our suitcases, coffee and tea, shampoo and shower gel and plenty of amenities. The bed was fine and you can even work there with two people, although it is a bit cumbersome.

Advantages

  • Upgrade by Gold Elite status
  • Clean and modern hotel
  • Coffee and water were generously refilled
  • Soft bed (tastes differ)
  • Nice rain shower with fine shower gel (Herbalist)
  • Nice sitting area in the room with sofa and table

Cons

  • Bed was comfortable but fairly small
  • Shower is awkwardly placed so the whole bathroom is wet when you have showered
  • The air conditioning has only 1 setting: very cold
  • The TV is fixed. You can’t rotate or tilt it. Connecting your own HDMI cable is not possible either, which we find nice

We also enjoy Gold Elite status at the Marriott thanks to our American Express credit card. Are you curious about all the benefits of the American Express card? Then check out this comprehensive article.

Because of our Gold Elite status, we receive an upgrade to a larger room during check-in as well as – without asking – free breakfast during our stay. We are very happy about that afterwards!

Cost Fairfield Jaipur

We paid €65 per night (November 2023) for the Fairfield by Marriott. This is a booking for a standard room without breakfast. Thanks to our status, we got a room upgrade as well as free breakfast.

For comparison, we stayed at the Ibis Civil Lines later during our trip in Jaipur. This is a hotel in the same price category, but I found both the room and the location considerably less.

Location of the Fairfield in Jaipur

Jaipur is about twice the size of Amsterdam, so the location is a bit difficult to judge. As far as I could tell, the Fairfield is in a great location. You’re close to the Lonely Planet walking trail in the centre of the Pink City and there are plenty of nice restaurants around the hotel.

On our last night in Jaipur, we slept at the Ibis before flying on to Bangalore. This area is a lot less lively.

Fairfield by Marriott breakfast

I had already given a hint, but the breakfast here is very good. Especially for a budget label where you pay just €65.

Breakfast is not typically Western, although you can get croissants, boiled eggs, white toast and pancakes. Frankly, I think these are the least tasty things you can get here, but I didn’t try that. The salad selection is quite limited. For lovers, you can order an omelette, bacon, dosa or paratha to your heart’s content and this is freshly prepared for you. They also have raita (yoghurt), bircher muesli (overnight oats) with grated carrot, fruit, granola, nuts and seeds, jam, nutella and peanut butter.

As far as I am concerned, they excel at local breakfasts. You have a choice of four different curries and three different chutneys (all three of which are incredibly delicious with a fresh dosa). You will find different types of bread to dip in the curry. The staff will lovingly explain what you can get and are happy to advise you on the best dishes. Fancy a fresh lassi? They will lovingly make that for you too.

Remote working in Jaipur

Remote working was fine at the Fairfield hotel. There were plenty of places in the breakfast room on the top floor. Sit at a table, at the bar or outside in a recliner. The rooftop terrace was also comfortable despite the temperature of ~30 degrees, thanks in part to a nice breeze at this altitude.

In Jaipur itself, we did not spot a good workplace. There is a coffee shop near the hotel (maps location), where you can do some things. However, I did not find any suitable places for a full remote working day.
